SERVING IN THE MICRONESIA GUAM MISSION
"And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall." -Helaman 5:12

good experiences in Saipan!

Great companionship:  Elder Garcia and Elder Kearl
Hey Mom!
How are You?  I am just fine here in Micronesia!

So we had a really good week.  We spent all of saturday finding people to teach and we had  some interesting experiences.  Mission wide, finding people was the only activity we were supposed to do that day.  We were finding in a government housing area and were prompted to skip this one house and go down the street.  So we kept walking and eventually this golfball comes flying down the street and we picked it up and went looking for the kid who had it.  We saw this little kid running away trying to hide and so we went up and talked to him and he was with his dad.  His dad asked my companion, Elder Garcia,  if he had ever served in Guam and my Companion served there for a year so he said yes!  Well it turns out they had met before and he was an inactive member.  While we were talking, all of the sudden his brother in law pulled up and he sat down with us and we were able to give them all a gospel lesson.  He asked us lots of questions and we committed him to read the Book of Mormon and to pray about it and we are seeing him again this coming saturday!  The Lord works miracles when we have faith and I can testify of that!

I also have a funny story for you:  We were in that same area when these chuukese kids started speaking chuukese to us and finally they said in English "oh, so your name is Elder Kearl and your name rhymes with girl, so you are a girl" and so I replied "En nukumach" (you are naughty/bad/disobedient).  He started laughing so I asked "What does that mean?" and he says " I am going to spank you!"  In Micronesia there is no such thing as child abuse so the thinking is if you love your child you will beat him in the face.  So I have seen lots of kids and teenagers who still get spanked by there parents,  its kinda sad!
Well I gotta go
Love ya
c you later
Elder Kearl
