SERVING IN THE MICRONESIA GUAM MISSION
"And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall." -Helaman 5:12

happy about upcoming baptism and fun at an army museum

Hey mom,

Thats so cool you wrote your last nursing final! You must be so happy to be done! I am very proud of you.

Ermina and Calvin are getting baptized this Saturday and we are so excited. The baptism is going to be at the beach! I am very happy for Ermina, she really wants to get baptized and she has been taught by missionaries for a long time! We are all just so happy! We also have been teaching Ermina's sister in law who is interested in being baptized too.

Thats is really good and crazy that Kiersten Hilton is married now! I did not know that Nathan Turner is getting married too, very exciting!

You asked about summer here, it doesn't get any hotter but it rains like nobody's business.

We went to a war museum for a zone p-day, it was lots of fun. Another picture is of Elder Kata who found a Kuran. There is a picture of some sisters from Chuuk and our beloved ward missionary, Fred Castro. I love serving a mission and I love living in Guam.

I love you,

roller coaster week

Dear Mom

How are you?  I am great! This week was a roller coaster; alot of ups and downs but still very fun!

Ermina accepted a baptismal date for the 30th. She is really scared because she went to a church activity on Friday and when she got back, her sister kept saying bad stuff about the church she was really distraught! We comforted her and told her those things she said weren't true. She felt better after and she felt happy because she knew she had a testimony of the Gospel. She came to church the next day! We are teaching her sister in law Niterine too but she went back to Dededo last week but we had some good lessons with her she was crying! Ermina is still doing good she know this would happen that your family would fight against her! She actually had a dream where it happened and then she saw Jesus, I thought it was really cool! Me and Elder Kata have a special feeling she is going to help alot of people after she gets baptized. Also a lot of people are depending on her to accept the Gospel and to bring it to them! We have a feeling and President Mecham taught her with us one time and even said "if you get baptized your sister will get baptized also and your kids" I think she knows that she is a very special and spiritual women! It's been a good experience teaching her.

That's cool that Scott got a phone! Hopefully he doesn't go crazy with it! That's cool that Kristen is getting married next week, hope it is awesome for her!  I think I could will be in Guam till I get home! Calvin is also doing good he is going to scout camp which is awesome.

I love you

same old, same old, but it's all good!

Hey Mom,

Thanks for telling me about Todd Dilling's mission call to the Vanuatu Port Vila Mission. He is going to have so much fun. There is actually a sister in our mission who is from there, her name is Sister Vano and she will be back home when he gets there. I think her dad is the district president there. I'll find out more for him. He will love the heat and island life.

I am doing great and the missionary work is going very well.  We found a really prepared girl named Geraldine. She is 18 years old. Her dad is in jail and has been for 8 years. She has been arrested a few times and she had a drinking problem but she said she really wants a change in her life and has accepted a baptismal date for July 8.

Ermina is progressing along well. Things are going well with Elder Kata so I cannot complain about anything. We also have a baptismal date for a son of a member. We have had consistent success with finding new people to teach.

We also had a fireside in Merizo with some families down there. We had 34 people came. When Lianna was on her mission there, they only had a branch and around 10 people coming to church. We could potentially start a group there and have sacrament if we continue to have success there. It was an awesome experience.

That's so awesome that you are almost done nursing school. Sorry to hear this class has been so hard but good for you for having a job offer already for nursing on the cancer ward. Let me know if you decide to take it or not.  I can't send pics this week, Elder Kata forgot his camera cord. He is such a funny guy, we have a good time together.  Thanks for sending me the email about Uncle David's new job with the church. I am sure he will be awesome doing that.

I feel I have grown in so many ways personally! A mission has been very good for me to grow up and mature.  Well I gotta go sorry, I love you, bye

good personal study to share

Hey Mom!

How are you?  I am good! We had a good week.  Connie, one of our investigators bore her testimony at church yesterday and it was really good.  We also got a new Bishop. His name is Bishop Dana and he used to be the ward mission leader.

The work is going good and we could possibly have some Baptisms this month, we are just waiting for a miracle!  You could say I am doing okay, hanging in there, and loving it all at the same time!

I had a really good personal study today! I was reading in the book of Act's and I got to chapter 19. If you go to verses 14-16(I think) it talks about authority and I thought about that and I remember teaching this one guy in Yigo who claimed his baptism was valid because it was in the name of Jesus Christ . So then I thought of the baptismal prayer where it says "having been commissioned of Jesus Christ". I looked up commissioned and it says "a person entrusted with Authority". So the authority is so important that it is stated right in the baptismal prayer. In the book of Mormon it also says "having authority "(mosiah 18 and 3 Nephi 11). I found it pretty interesting and powerful.

I am doing good, I will try to send some pictures next week.  I love you,

Love Elder Kearl
