SERVING IN THE MICRONESIA GUAM MISSION
"And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall." -Helaman 5:12

busy missionary

Hey mom, I don't have much time to write to you today. We have to be in barrigada in 15 minutes. I will send you some pictures next week.

We had a good week. We have some people coming up for baptism. We had this one investigator who came to church for the first time yesterday Her name is Ermina.  Her sister didn't want her to come and was going to take away all her support but she fasted and prayed and made it to church. She really loved it she wants to get baptized. I hope it all works out.

That's great you and dad will serve together as family history consultants that's good. Yes, you can go ahead and find me a place to live in January down at the Y. I don't know when I will get my release date and frankly, I am not really worrying about it at all!

We are good though sorry I don't have much time!  For Mother's Day you can call me on you sunday anytime that works for you. Maybe one o'clock, that's right after I get out of church.

I gotta go, Love you, bye,

living in the exact same house liana did as a missionary

picture of aunt liana in front of house

Hey Mom and Dad,

How are you? I am good! Happy to here that you are having fun in Mexico.

It turns out that Liana used to serve in my area and lived in the exact same house I live in. I think thats crazy.

My companion and I have been really working hard. We had a baptism for Ethan on saturday and then stake conference yesterday. It was very good. It was an area broadcast and Elder Kata (my companion from Chuuk) wanted to watch it in chuukese so we did! he missionary zone conference was really good. Elder Ringwood had me and ELder Kata practice teaching him! I am loving my new area. We are going to baptize like crazy here, I am so excited.

Sorry, I left my camera back at the house and we have to email really far away!

This is a great area to serve in with so much potential. We are covering a whole missionary district we are still in the stake, because they don't have enough missionaries. Their used to be 3 companionships in our area.

Well I love you both, but I gotta go

Have fun

a letter to aunt liana, who served in the micronesia guam mission over 20 years ago
Dear Liana

How are you? I am good! Guess what? I live in that house but they took down the tree.

We are having some success here. Everyone used to hate this area but now they love it! We cover the whole south. It used to be Talofofo and Merizo and before that Yonah was its own area but now we cover all of that. They are thinking of putting a group in Talofofo to get more people to church. There are alot of priestholders there but they are not active.

There are still alot of americans but we got some good local and micronesian people here too! Did you know Buzz Pesuier? He's crazy but awesome. He's on the high council.

Thats true about dating, it is quite funny!

Well sorry I gotta go, thats so cool we live where you used to live as a missionary,

They actually put a group in Merizo after I left - dan

transferred to an area liana served in

Hey Mom

How are you? I am good!  I got transferred. I am still in Guam, but I am down south in a different ward, The Talisay Ward. Our area is called the Merizo Area and there is just us and a senior couple here. It's exciting to be here. There used to be 2 areas (merizo and Talifofo) but they are now just one. I think Aunt Liana served here if I am not mistaken, could you please ask her! This ward is awesome. This area has had a bad reputation in the past but we are going to turn this place around by working with part member families, we already have a baptism this Saturday and we are planning on getting some more this month and next month!

My companion is Elder Kata and he is Chuukese. He is really nice and obedient. His old companion was really disobedient but I have already turned it around and am helping him correct some things. But seriously Elder Kata is awesome. We speak Chuukese most of the time. I already love him. I have known him for a while, this is his seventh Transfer and I am the District Leader here even though its only me, Elder Kata and a couple in this District and Ward.

I really miss Elder Marshall and the Yigo Ward even though it was really hard and there was only one baptism. But Ivan our investigator who was baptized is doing really good. Someone thought he was chewing beetle nut again. I talked to him about it and turns out he only chews chewing gum. He was like "Yeah, I have been chewing....................... Chewing Gum." I thought it was funny, he was like "what did you think I was chewing? Beetle-nut?". He's 19 years old but the senior couple up north gave him a Strength for Youth Pamphlet to prepare him for him mission, he really likes the dating part. hahaha!!!

Yeah, so the senior couple is really awesome that are in our area. They are proselyting missionaries but they teach all the less active members and recent converts the new member lessons helping with reactivation and making a map of the area. They are also going around to all the members homes and teaching them about missionary work trying to get referrals. They are awesome! They are Elder and Sister Norton and they just got here to the mission. We really like them. Because we are the only missionaries here, we have alot of flexibility. It is absolutely beautiful here!

I had a good personal study. I was studying about conversion, but I also read something in 'Our Heritage'. There was a story about this guy who was in the Martin Handcart Company and when he was really old a long time after they crossed the plains, some people were saying bad things about the church and the Martin Handcart Company. He told them to stop because he says he knows completely that God lives because he became acquainted with Him in all his sufferings at that time! He said he would go to a hill or patch of sand and he would think: "I can only get there" and the when he got there the cart would be pushing him and he would look back and see nothing but he knew for certain that angels were there helping him.

We have Zone conference today at 2:45 and Elder Ringwood, the new area President is here. I am really excited to go, its gonna be so good. There are no interviews this time.

I am really excited to hear about Braedens mission call to Toronto. He is going to do awesome. That's the same mission as Tyler Gedlaman, that's so exciting! He is going to tear it up there! Thats a funny story about Joey at the Gedlamans Joey is really awesome, I hope you guys are walking him, he really needs it.

I received your Easter package this week and it was so great, thank you.  Well I love you and sorry I gotta go now.  Sorry about no pictures again, by accident I left my camera in Yigo but I am getting it later today!

a baptism....

Dear family

How are You? I am doing good!  Ivan was baptized and confirmed this week! It was really good and he is really excited to receive the priesthood!  It was a good week. I had my first district leader council! I am glad to hear the conference talks were good, we will watch general conference next week. I am really looking forward to it.

I was laughing out loud when I read the story about Cohen and breastfeeding. That's happened quite a bit here, I have seen alot of women breastfeeding, its a little awkward but you get used to it.

We found 2 really good families this week, one of them is part-member which is a gold mine. We also had fun teaching Ritaichi.  We are teaching this one family and they are super, super poor. One of their relatives got mad at them and took all their documents. They are chuukese, the dad has no job and their kids don't even have clothes, like they just walk around naked and we were teaching a lesson and their 2 year old just started peeing right their on the floor where he was sitting down. They were so embarrassed but we told them not to worry, we understood!

In chuukese Sunday school yesterday, we had a testimony meeting and the teacher bears her testimony, tells us she is not worthy to teach the class and goes into detail about one of her serious sin's. Everyone was really nice and gave her a hug (except us, we can't give hug's) But I did tell her we loved and cared about her.  We were still really nice though!

Thats exciting that Emily is going to speak next Sunday and Brett is coming home. We are having fun here as a companionship. What do I need? I would love you to send me some more Lipton sidekicks, thats about it, different flavours if you can.

I love you!
